Holiday Movies to Get You in the Holiday Spirit

1. Krampus

Krampus, although technically a scary movie, has everything that makes it a must-watch for Christmas. Max, who is a young, kind-hearted boy, struggles to cope with his dysfunctional parents and his bullying cousins. In his frustration, Max tears a letter to Santa apart and throws it from the window. Max throws away a note to Santa Claus, which unleashes Krampus’ full power. The two must work together to stay alive.

2. Home Alone

One of the most classic holiday films is Kevin McCallister. Kevin is an 8-year old boy who gets accidentally locked in the attic by his parents after they and their large family go to Paris. Kevin is surprised to see his whole family have left. His wish has come true. Two burglars, who are planning to rob him of his house, disrupt the celebrations. Kevin uses his wits to fight the greedy and silly crooks (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) before losing more than his holiday spirits.

3. Christmas Story

It is no surprise that A Christmas Story became a popular cult film for this season. Ralphie Parker is a boy with an awkward personality who must deal with his school bullies and parents as well as his decreasing enthusiasm for Christmas. Ralphie is driven to receive an air rifle, the Red Ryder, from Santa. Ralphie wants to see Christmas without shooting out his eye or ruining his dream.

4. Elf

Will Ferrell is Buddy, the human child who was raised by Santa’s elves at the North Pole. Buddy gradually begins to feel different to his elvin siblings and embarks on an adventure to New York City, where he searches for his true father. Walter Hobbs is a morally bankrupt entrepreneur. Walter Hobbs and Buddy attempt, with disastrous results, to revive their relationship as father and son after much fuss.

5. Die Hard

In this action film, John McClaine is an off-duty officer of police who goes to visit his estranged woman during the annual Christmas celebration of a big and fancy building – the company’s headquarters. John is the last man standing when a group of terrorists take over the building. He is also his wife’s best hope of survival.
