Remember anatomy? The nightmare is back with flashcards. You’ll learn more about topics you thought you knew. You keep peeling the layers off of human biology, and you’ll cry. Expect to review advanced patient care techniques and medical terminologies, as well as detailed bodily function.
Real Deal Clinical Rotations
Here is where it all comes together. The clinical rotations will throw you into the deep-end to help real patients. These rotations are a great way to test yourself and improve your skills. Consider it a dress rehearsal, where the director has taken your script away and told you to “just wing it.”
Study groups and Friends: Your Lifeline
Remember that time when you were lost and a kind stranger showed you how to get out of a maze? Study groups and friends are what you can expect in this program. Your study buddies and Netflix-and-wine partners are your lifeline. They will keep you grounded and sane. They’ll keep you grounded.
Instructors: More than Lecturers
Your teachers aren’t just the ones who assign you tons and tons of homework. They’re seasoned professionals who’ve been through it all themselves. Imagine them like Mr. Miyagi in “Karate Kid.” They’ll test you, push you, and hopefully help you polish your skills as a nurse until you shine brightly like a jewel.
Survival Tips From the Trenches
Here is some advice that has been given to you by those who have survived combat:
1. Plan your week as though you are going to Mars. Every second counts.
2. **Self-Care** Don’t neglect to look after yourself. Take a break and have a smoothie.
3. *Ask for help**: You can do this by asking your instructor, your colleagues, or even through YouTube tutorials. Ask for help without any shame.
4. Remember your motivation. It could be the money, the prestige, your passion for patient-care, etc. Keep that passion burning.
When Books Become Best Friends
You will become inseparable from your textbooks, more than you are with peanut butter. These heavy tomes will become your late-night friends, your weekend hangouts and your closest friends for six months. Embrace it.
From Classroom to Floor
It is a steep hill to climb from classroom theories into floor realities. But every mountain peak will be worth it. You will have many “Aha!” Moments where theories become clear and the confusing lecture becomes a reality.
Graduating Day: A Sweet Reward
In six months, you will be in your graduation gown holding your certificate and thinking, “Did i really do it?” You will feel an incredible sense of accomplishment. In no time, you will be able to transition from being a LPN into the respected title of RN.
